Two Words… Permanent Brows!
My Journey to Permanent Brows
Before getting my brows done, I was attempting to shade them myself... and doing a terrible job at it, I might add. I had very thin browns and I tried so many eyebrow pencils and powders, but I lacked the skill to make them look nice, natural and even. I wanted fuller, more defined brows and started researching permanent makeup and that's when I learned about combination brows, which combine two techniques: microblading and ombré or powder shading. Microblading creates hair-like strokes, while the shading adds softness, depth and fullness. Together, they create a dimensional brow that can look both natural and polished. Combination brows sounded like exactly what I was looking for.
More Natural-Looking Brows
After finally taking the plunge and getting my permanent brows done, my morning routine has completely changed. One of the things I love most about my new brows is how natural they look! The combination of microblading and ombre shading gave my brows the fullness I wanted without making them look overly made up. My browns have shape, definition and dimension… and they still look like my eyebrows! The microblading creates the appearance of individual brow hairs, while the ombre effect adds soft, subtle shading. Instead of looking like they’re shaded, they simply look like I naturally have better brows—which is exactly what I wanted. I honestly couldn't be happier with the results!
The Perks
The biggest benefit has been how much time I've gained back in the morning. What used to be a daily process of finding my brow pencil or powder, carefully filling in sparse areas, blending everything, and trying to make both sides match is now basically eliminated. Now, my brows are already there! Getting my eyebrows done has cut the time it takes me to get ready each day in half, and that has been such a wonderful change. I can wake up, get ready, and go or I can spend those extra minutes doing something else—or simply enjoy a slower morning. Let's be honest—those few extra minutes in the morning really add up!
One Less Thing to Worry About
I also love knowing that my eyebrows are going to look good without me having to constantly check them throughout the day. There's no worrying about accidentally rubbing off one brow, sweating away my makeup, or realizing that one side looks different from the other. My brows have their shape and definition already, which makes my entire face look more polished even when I'm wearing very little makeup.
Choosing My Brow Technician
Because permanent makeup is a commitment, I didn't want to choose someone based simply on price or convenience; my focus was on finding someone I truly felt produced quality work. I spent a lot of time researching local permanent makeup artists and looking carefully at their work before deciding who I trusted with my brows. If you're thinking about getting your brows done, my biggest piece of advice is simple: Research. Research. Research. Look at the artists in your area. Visit their websites and social media pages. Look at lots of their work—not just one or two of their best photos. Pay attention to healed results when those photos are available, because freshly completed brows aren't necessarily representative of what they'll look like after the skin has healed. Read reviews, too. And don't be afraid to schedule a consultation and ask questions. You want an artist who listens to what you want, explains the technique they're recommending and makes you feel comfortable with the process.
Was It Worth It?
For me, absolutely. Getting combination brows was something I thought about for years, but I'm so happy I finally took the leap. I love the way my brows look. I love how natural and full they are. I love that I no longer have to spend time shading them every morning. And I especially love that I found a brow technician whose work I trusted and who gave me the results I was hoping for. For me, combination brows have been a total game changer.
If you're considering permanent makeup for your eyebrows, take your time. Do your research, review the work of the artists you're considering, read their reviews, ask questions and find someone whose style and experience give you confidence. After all, these are your eyebrows—and they're right there on your face every day! I'm incredibly happy with mine, and every morning when I look in the mirror, I'm reminded that sometimes finally doing the thing you've been debating for years is completely worth it. My one regret? Not doing it sooner!!
